Giant Sausage Roll
Ingredients
- 1 packet puff pastry
- 1 roasted pepper
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- ½ chopped onion
- 1 Tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 beaten egg (for glazing)
- ¾ cup mushrooms
- 1 packet sausage meat
- Tomato relish
Method
- Put sausage meat, roasted pepper, onion, tomato sauce, balsamic vinegar, mushrooms, and breadcrumbs in a bowl. Mix with your hands until combined.
- Roll pastry into a rectangle.
- Place sausage mixture down the centre of the pastry.
- Make a well down the centre of the sausage mixture and fill with tomato relish.
- On either side of the sausage mixture, cut diagonal strips in the pastry. Starting at the top, place a left strip over the mixture, then a right strip, continuing to plait until all the meat is covered.
- Brush the pastry with the beaten egg wash and place in an oven heated to 170°C for 30 minutes.
- Turn the oven down to 150°C and bake for another 10 minutes or until the pastry is golden all over.
